Sugaring ~ Hair Removal
Sugaring is an alternative to wax for hair removal and has been around for centuries, dating back to over 1900 BC. As I am highly allergic to the plastics and dyes in wax, I appreciate this practice.
People ask, "How does it work?"
I explain that it is similar to using wax, but I mostly use ‘cold’ sugar, so there are no worries about getting burned. I also use the same ball of sugar for the full area so there is less waste. I liken the sugar ball to molasses as it contains organic sugar, lemon juice and filtered water. The sugar adheres to topical dead skin cells & hair, whereas heated wax adheres to dead and live skin cells & hair, having the potential to damage connective tissue. With sugaring, hair is removed in the direction of the natural hair growth, lessening discomfort without hair breakage. As it is applied, the sugar is "molded" into the hair follicle, wrapping itself around the base of the hair for removal. You will begin to notice that hair grows back thinner and thinner, less & less with continued treatments. As a bonus, sugar does not need any special solvents after the service to clean the skin, only water.
